IMPACTS

Whiskey has had impacts on America for many years, through economic and social effects. It has these same affects on smaller regions of America such as Appalachia. Economically it has had it's ups and downs. In the 19th century, it caused an economic boom for the region, where it was cheap to make and easy to sell. However when prohibition hit America, it caused the market to plummet. The fall of the whiskey market created a new market of illegal liquor such as moonshine. Socially, liquor has had many impacts on the people in Appalachia, such as the way people interact with one another. Socially, liquor has made people come together and has lead to jobs (Ramsey).

SOCIALLY

One neat fact about whiskey is that in the 19th century the average American drank 9.5 gallons of whiskey a year. Today it is a 1/5th of whiskey a year (Kosar).
